Donation Policy
The purpose of this policy is to provide clear direction to library staff and the public regarding donations of books, materials and other items.
Financial Contributions
We gratefully accept financial contributions for general or specifically designed purposes. If conditions are attached they are to be reviewed and approved by the Board. A tax receipt is given for monetary contributions.
Book Donations
We are very grateful for donations from the public, but due to staff time and shelving space limitation, we have established the following guidelines:
All donations must become the property of the library, and staff retain the right to add them to the collection, sell them or dispose of them.
Please call prior to bringing items to the library (204-746-2136).
We will only consider items that are in new or nearly-new condition.
We can not accept items that are DUSTY, MOULDY, WORN, TORN, or in otherwise POOR CONDITION
We can not accept books that have been highlighted
Items that will NOT be accepted:
Encyclopedias
Textbooks
Reader’s Digest Condensed Books
Computer Software
Video Cassettes
Video Games
Music Cassettes/CDs
Audio Books on Cassette
Items that will be Gratefully Accepted:
Adult Fiction and Non-Fiction: 5 years or newer
Children’s Fiction and Non-Fiction: 5 years or newer
Junior Fiction or Non-Fiction: 5 years or newer
Young Adult Fiction or Non-Fiction: 5 years or newer
“Classics” in good condition
Movies on DVD- Undamaged with original case and jacket
Audio Books on CD- Undamaged with original case and jacket
Magazines- Current only please
